Veterans Adminitration Benefits Backlog
Veterans Adminitration Benefits Backlog Backlog for VA Benefits Higher than Once Thought According to a recent report from the Office of the Inspector General, the case backlog to receive benefits through the Veterans Administration (VA) is worse than originally thought. A detailed article on the results of this new investigation is available here. The VA inspector general has identified tens of thousands of cases for benefits that have been either ignored or omitted by department officials. According to their calculations, they ââ¬Å"significantly understated the number of claims awaiting decisions for over 125 days.â⬠Investigators say the backlog as originally reported covers only 79% of relevant cases. They state others have been mistakenly excluded, misclassified, or only marked overdue after processing. VA officials state they are: ââ¬Å"reviewing how best to supplement or adjust reporting on the rating-related backlog.â⬠They plan to have new training and standards in place by the end of the year. The number of cases taking over 125 days to complete rose to 611,000 in March 2013 before settling to 70,000 in September 2015. The number has held between 70,000 and 100,000 each week for the last three years. At the same time, the total number of applications continued to rise. The inspector general cites another 63,600 overdue cases were omitted for unknown reasons- while 10,000 more were recorded incorrectly. Therefore, this backlog is predicted to grow as the number of applicants increases.à It is unfortunate that veterans who have dutifully served our country and sacrificed so much are forced to wait long periods of time to receive the benefits they need. Argumentative Essay : Bullying Among Teenagers -- Adolescence, Puberty,
In recent times, there is no doubt that there has been an upsurge of disrespectful manners among teenagers. Today, teenagers are completely unpredictable with what they can and cannot do in regards to their behaviors. Many people do not want to deal or try to figure out what is going on in the minds of teenagers as they feel it is just easier to view all incidences of this way of life with a blind eye. This occurrence has escalated to the point that everywhere you go, it is likely to find yourself amongst one or two rude teenagers. They treat people with no respect and the shocking part of it is that they show no remorse for their actions. Primeval cultures upheld respect as one of the important traits kids should have when dealing with adults. Although cultures have many contrariety, but at the same time, had elements that united them through time and geographic region. Many of these elements were included in religious, social and moral laws. In religions and western philosophy the element of respect is held with topmost importance allowing a clear boundary between those who are young and naive and those who are experienced and mature. The view that kids has to show respect when dealing with people that are significantly older than them has gradually diminished over the years. Emergence of new cultures has affected the rate of discipline we give to young ones. High school students are popularly known for their notorious disrespect for authority and adults in general. Many continually wonder how children change from been respectful at a very young age to been disrespectful at their teenage years. This led to various research and studies into teenagers and their disrespectful attitudes. Studies and researchfilled with optimism, hopefulness and encouragement, not disrespect towards other people in the society.According to the Bible in the book of proverbs 22:6 (New International Version) states that ââ¬Å"train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he would not depart from it.â⬠parental and societal failure to inculcate good manners into children has led to the various societal severities. If your child is showing signs of disrespect to you, their teachers or other family members it is important that you do not wait until it gets out of hand before seeking help from a therapist who can make recommendations depending on the situation. Teamwork of all social institutions is the only way the problem of bad manners can be stopped. When the family, the media and schools come together with determination to tackle this issue, then America will be a better place.

The Impact of foreign Investment(with reference to china and india) on Dissertation
The Impact of foreign Investment(with reference to china and india) on Nigeria's Economy and how Nigeria as a developing country - Dissertation Example Nigeria is the most heavily populated country in African continent. It is one of the rapidly developing economies in Africa along with South Africa. Moreover, Nigeria is blessed with immense oil and other natural resources. However, technological advancements in Nigeria are not so good. As a result of that it is incapable of exploiting the natural resources properly. Being the most rapidly emerging economies in the world, India and China can help Nigeria immensely in streamlining its economic growth. Plenty of Indian and Chinese companies are currently operating in Nigeria in different sectors such as agriculture, oil, mining, refining, automobile manufacturing, banking, retailing etc. These countries are helping Nigeria to exploit its natural resources judiciously. This paper analyses the impact of foreign investment (with reference to China and India) on Nigeriaââ¬â¢s economy and how Nigeria as a developing nation can promote Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Table of Contents 1. 0 Introduction Globalization is a process through which the activities done in one part of the world affects people on other parts of the world (Reich 1998: 5). According to Lieber and Weisberg, globalization helps people all over the world in the creation of a stronger and stable world (Lieber and Weisberg 2002: 274). Huge changes are taking place in this world after the introduction of globalization and liberalization. Some of the underdeveloped economies such as India, and China are currently emerging as the most rapidly developing economies in the world, mainly because of their ability to exploit the opportunities provided by globalization. These countries were successful mainly because of their readiness to open up their domestic market for foreign direct investments. The importance of free market and private enterprise in promoting economic globalization was explained by many scholars (Ghai1997: 1) The economy of the world keeps improving and keeps becoming more integrated as most countries want to play/contribute to a role in the economy of the 21st century. Globalisation keeps increasing as countries try to identify their competitive advantages and use their available resources to secure profits for themselves. Trade has now being expanded compared to the past, services and cross boarder flows of financial resources and people. Countries all over the world have realised that domestic resources alone may not help them much in streamlining the economic growth. As a result of that majority of the countries have already opened up their economies and liberalized the rules and regulations to attract more and more foreign direct investments or FDI. FDI is the investment of foreign capital in domestic goods and services. According to Dicken (2007, p.36), direct investment is a kind of investment intended to gain control over the activities of another firm. FDI is the investment across nations. ââ¬Å"The flow of FDI and portfolio investments across countries g enerates a very large amount of investment incomes going in the opposite directionâ⬠Ietto-Giles 2002: 27). On the other hand, Adina (2011) mentioned about the training effect of FDI. In her opinion, FDI may help a country to modernize techniques and technologies, increase production and supply of goods, improve quality and competitiveness, create new jobs and grow the quality of life (Adina 2011: 148). In short, it is difficult for a country to develop properly in the modern era with the help of

Why and How U.S. Labor Unions Seek to Influence Federal, State and Essay
Why and How U.S. Labor Unions Seek to Influence Federal, State and Local Politics - Essay Example It is recorded in the United States Department of Labor that more than 16 million American citizens are members of the labor unions (Agrawal, 2012). That depicts that more than 14% of the workers in America are members of the labor unions. This essay seeks to discuss why and how the United States labor unions seek to influence the federal, state, and the local politics. According to Merino (2012), there are various reasons that make the U.S labor union try to control the federal, state, and the local politics. One of them is as an attempt to prevent over-exploitation of workers. Since the labor unions seek to safeguard the rights of their members who are workers and also advocate for an increase in their benefits, the union strive to influence the federal, state, and the local politics as an attempt to reduce the working hours of their members. That is because when the labor unions have maximum influence on the three levels of politics, it is easier for it to reduce the unpaid employeesââ¬â¢ hours and increase the number of paid hours. Besides, the labor unions also influence politics in an attempt to improve the working environment of its members and also maximizing their benefits such as the allowances allocated to them. Further, it also uses the influence it has on the federal, state, and local politics to enact new laws that protect the righ ts of its members. Moreover, the labor unions also seek to influence the federal, state and local politics in order to maintain the general welfare of their members. That is done by influencing the results of the elections so that people from regions with most number of people in the union can be elected as leaders. Through that, the labor union attempts to have politicians who understand the needs of the workers so as to improve their conditions. Besides, the labor unions also finance some of their workers to vie in the elections even if they are aware that these people cannot win. It happens

The Benefits of Being a Physical Therapist Essay Example for Free
The Benefits of Being a Physical Therapist Essay Professional realization is one of the most important aspects of life for most contemporary people. Its obvious that a person should be satisfied with what he/she is doing in order to reach the high level of professionalism, thus when choosing a career I considered some factors beside the size of the salary and job security. à à à à à à à à à à à The first and one of the weightiest arguments for choosing the career of a Physical Therapist was the variety of working environments it offered. I dont have much experience with different working environments, thus Im not sure what will suit me the best. That is why Im going to try all of the environments where the PT could be employed, such as hospital, clinic, patients home, social security service or some other facility. I believe that the quality of work often depends on the environment the person is in, thus I m attracted by the variety of alternatives the PTs job offers. I am also sure, that the physical condition of the patient is subordinate to his/her psychological condition. It often happens that the patient doesnââ¬â¢t show any improvements in a hospital or clinic because of the strange environment he/she is in, and when he/she is transferred home, the process of getting better accelerates greatly. I like the idea to qualify as a PT because it will give me the opportunity to help people out of hospital environment, everywhere where they will need my help and assistance. à à à à à à à à à à à One more reason for which I decided to take this occupation is that it allows making the life of the elderly people more qualitative by showing them that their body is still capable of doing the things theyve long forgotten about. In my opinion physical therapy is one of the keys for solving some of the psychological problems the elderly have as it helps this category of people to feel in control of their lives again. The duration of life has increased greatly through the past century, and the next task the society and the medical workers have to face is making the life of the elderly more qualitative by giving them physical ability to continue the full social life they led when being younger. I feel that Physical Therapist is one of the specialists most needed for accomplishing this task, as he/she is able to explain the older people what should they do to preserve their health and activity as long as possible. PT will advice on the choice of physical activities, which is one of the basic things for healthy life, will recommend the hours this or that person needs them a week. PT is even able to advice on the choice of the diet that will help to preserve physical and mental activity. Another category of clients I would like to work with are professional athletes, as those people are exploring the borders of that what the humans body is capable of, and this is one of the topics that interests me the most about the human beings. Iââ¬â¢d like to know how the professional sportsmen manage to reach the results ordinary people canââ¬â¢t even dream about. It is also known that this category of people often have health problems regardless of their perfect physical shape. I would like to help professional athletes to keep that balance between the impressive sports achievements and physical health for to increase the period they can perform actively and reduce the negative effect of the continuous trainings most of them have from their early childhood. à à à à à à à à à à à The last but not the least argument for choosing thee career of PT was the challenges this job offered. The thing is that every person the PT has to work with is unique, thus treating him/her needs special individually developed strategy that will help him/her realize their full potential without harming the organism. For me it is very fascinating to help the humans body work the way it has to work, to discover the great potential each of the human beings has, and which often stays covered because of the mistakes people make in their choice of occupation, lifestyle, quantity of physical activities and nutrition during their life-span.

Blacks and Whites in Movies Essay -- essays research papers
The object of this paper is to portray the role of African Americans and Whites in modern contemporary films. It is evident that there has been a great deal of effort in the integration of black people into American society. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has strived to undo the ties of segregation and disenfranchisement of African Americans. The NAACP has used several strategies to overturn segregation rules and obtain suffrage for black citizens. With the introduction of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950ââ¬â¢s, the motto ââ¬Å"We shall overcomeââ¬â¢ served as inspiration for the fight against segregation. Although much effort has been made to integrate black people into society over the years, there still exists significant segregation with respect to roles in motion pictures and modern film. However, great advancements have been made in recent years to overcome this struggle to equally include African Americans in the wealth and success of the media culture. With the recent surge of technological advancement and media industry, the black role has simultaneously advanced. The African American history of struggle, misrepresentation, and segregation has been the theme of many modern movies, music, and television shows. African Americans are taking advantage of this opportunity to represent the African American culture, even though it serves to explain their historical oppression and misfortune and not of their success and well-being. They are turning a negative history into a positive career and future. Approximately eighty years ago, it was only a thought that African Americans should indeed make movies and appear in the big screen alongside white actors and actresses. The Impacts Of Hazardous Waste On Nature Environmental Sciences Essay
Industrialization has caused a huge sum of risky compounds to come in our ecosystem and finally have a negative consequence on ecological diverseness, H2O handiness and human nutrient concatenation. The past century has seen worlds populate and present a big figure of risky chemical substances into the natural environments. Waste merchandises from industries, agricultural procedures, structural stuffs, medicine/drugs, e-wastes and pesticides which all destructively consequence the environment. The ambiance, biosphere and the hydrosphere, work in unison together to supply a habitable environment to the life being of the universe. Chemicals penetrate dirt, enter the air as emanations and the H2O as wastewater, finally poisoning aquatic beings and impacting the dirts ability to back up workss. Carbon dioxide which is the chief subscriber to the nursery consequence and clime alteration is besides caused by industrial emanations. Chlorofluorocarbons caused ozone depletion planet and over decennaries has caused an inflow of ultraviolent radiation into our planet. Pesticides and fertilisers from farms and gardens overflow into the H2O supply doing eutrophication, the physique up of algae in the river and lake systems doing decease to aquatic beings and doing it impossible to last. There are besides some unsafe chemicals which enter the dirt and groundwater doing familial defects in workss and beings doing it difficult to last and reproduce, therefore doing extinctions of certain workss and carnal species. A survey conducted in Southeast Ukraine found that 0.8 % of the Dnepropetrovsk Region remains portion of the one time 100 % natural ecosystem. This part is known for its huge supply of natural resources. Due to provide industries populated and began mining and fabrication, utilizing and huge sum of resources and bring forthing a big supply of waste, accordingly destructing the environing environment. Hazardous stuffs in ambiance, dirts, flora and H2O were badly contaminated and trials were conducted to find the badness of the issue. Gritsan, NP. , Babiy, AP. , 2000 found In Dnepropetrovsk Region, the release and composing of industrial emanations caused the hapless air quality. In respects to the dirt it was found countries non populated by industries where clean and pollution free, whereas the countries like Dnepropetrovsk and Dneprodzerzhinsk which had a high concentration of environmentally degrading industries consisted of chemicals such as Fe, Cu, Zn, lead and fluoride and where found in high concentrations. â⬠It was determined that concentrations of fluorides in workss turning near big or specific industrial companies were up to 15 times higher than normal. â⬠( Gritsan, NP. , Babiy, AP. , 2000 ) Food is a necessity for endurance and get downing from hapless disposal or industrial waste we are faced with a job that produces a concatenation of events stoping up in the blood supply of developing fetuss and the blood and tissues of kids, grownups and wildlife species. Man-made risky compounds are come ining animate beings through exposure, inspiration or ingestion. These risky compounds produced by industrial procedures accumulate up the nutrient ironss, inappropriate disposal and leeching from waste and landfill sites and stop up in the natural environment and finally in the manufacturers and consumers. Worlds are the top of the nutrient concatenation and hence consume the overall accretion of risky compounds. A study conducted by Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek ( Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research: TNO ) in the Netherlands shows that many of the different types of risky compounds exist in human blood indicating that worlds are exposed to these chemicals. Exposure can be through additives to consumer merchandises or through nutrient merchandises. Since many of these chemicals have a lipophillic nature they bioaccumulate in the nutrient concatenation. The TNO group tested manmade chemicals and found that many of th e compounds where nowadays in nutrients at a concentration of 0.1 to 10 ng/g. The World Wildlife Fund ( WWF ) study Chain of Contamination the Food Link found besides that the most of import exposure path for many of semisynthetic chemicals was through a bioaccumulation. Chemicals being DDT ( DDT ) a man-made pesticide and Polychlorinated Biphenyls ( PCBs ) which are organochlorine found in early industrial merchandises. DDT and PCBs are passed through diet. WWF conducted trials on organochlorine, polychlorinated Biphenyls, brominated fire retardent, perfluorinated chemicals, phthalates, unreal musks, Alkylphenols isomers of nonylphenol and organotins and found all these risky compounds to be present in nutrient merchandises across seven different states. The trials provide an penetration into the earnestness of this planetary job. Food being one concern, H2O handiness is another major concern. Many workss and animate beings need freshwater to last and risky compounds are come ining waterways and polluting fresh water, doing it unsafe and unsuitable for ingestion. Slavek Vasak, Rianne Brunt and Jasper Griffioen in their study ââ¬Å" Arsenic in Groundwater â⬠research maps of groundwater taint based specifically on ; happening of no fresh H2O, high flouride, high arsenous anhydride, high nitrate and the pollution from assorted beginnings. In their research they found many states to hold contaminatd H2O but really diffucult to nail less developed countries around the universe with the same job. Many states rely on groundwater for thier H2O supply and do non hold the resources and fundss to develop ways to take the chemicals from the H2O and are forced to devour contaminated H2O. Hazardous compounds have been used since the beginning of industralisation and it is merely in the past decennary or two where the effects of these compounds have affected our natural ecosytems and manner of life and still their full affect on iving things may non yet be known. New chemicals and merchandises are being manufactured mundane all in which may do injury to the the environment. E-waste is a authoritative illustration of recent merchandises incorporating types of chemcals which are harmful to the environment. In 2005 an estimated 697,000 metric tons of electronic and electrical equipment was consumed while 313,000 metric tons was disposed. ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.environment.gov.au/settlements/waste/electricals/index.html, 12/05/10 ) E-waste contains risky stuffs including quicksilver, lead, arsenic brominated fire retardents, Be and Cd. If non desposed right potentailly all the compounds present can leach into natural ecosystems and cause terrible nowadays and future jobs. Australia and the universe recognize they are faced with a planetary job in respects to risky wastes. They strive to restrict and forestall any amendss on the natural environment. In 1992 ââ¬Å" The Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal â⬠( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.environment.gov.au/settlements/chemicals/hazardous-waste/conventions.html 14/05./10 ) was implemented and in 2002 was sanctioned by 151 states including Australia. Australia signed the Basel Convention in 1992. The Convention is implemented in Australia by the Hazardous Waste ( Regulation of Exports and Imports ) Act 1989. ( http: //www.environment.gov.au/settlements/chemicals/hazardous-waste/conventions.html, 14/05/10 ) . It forced states to environmentally pull off risky wastes in a safe manner when importation and exporting. In implicating the minimisation of risky waste production, supplying disposal installations, cut downing the motion of risky waste, pull offing waste with respects to the environment and prevent and punish illegal traffic of waste. In visible radiation of the above there are options at a local graduated table where concerns and persons can forestall risky waste jobs in many ways ; risky compounds can be recycled, diminish the usage of risky stuffs in production, better labeling and record maintaining of stuffs, better storage and supply safer transit methods The environment is a complex system made up on interrelated ecosystems and any changes can do dramatic impacts on present and future environments. The impact of worlds is besides complex we live a complex life style and as we progress technologically and as a species we do it at the disbursal of the environment. The extinction of species along the concatenation may intend the loss of utile familial stuff or life salvaging malignant neoplastic disease drugs or safer options to the unsafe chemicals in usage at the minute. In order to battle this job we need to weigh out the hazard and benefits of a munificent life style and happen options to go on progressing without destructing the natural environment.
